Tennessee football has hit rock bottom [cue The Rock’s music], and I’m left here to suffer a terrible, terrible football program.

When you mention football season to a group of people, you’ll usually see a few heads stick up, but when it comes to Tennessee football, the heads drop lower than what they already were.

I mean Tennessee just lost to one of the worst Group 5 teams in the country. You all know the situation I don’t have to spell it out for you.

Offense, defense it doesn’t matter which one you want to talk about they both sucked, period. There’s no other way to put it they both sucked. The special teams are currently the best phase on our team, and that’s not a good thing at all.

As I sit here in my apartment living room in the dark with the MTSU game on in the background, I am not sure what else Tennessee can do, especially this year and with Jeremy Pruitt.

We just went through a coaching search and waited two years to get to this point where we thought we could see a decent Tennessee team take the field again and get us back to bowl season.

It doesn’t look like that’s going to be the case and we’re going to be stuck watching undeserving football programs play in a bowl game while we’re sitting at home eating chips and dip.

This whole offseason we have been hyping up these “great” assistant coaches we brought in who will fix the team. Now we know why Georgia fans were ok with Jim Chaney leaving. Now we know why Derrick Ansley went from the Oakland Raiders to Tennessee.

If Ansley were as good as a coach as everyone thought he was, he would have stayed in the NFL! I don’t know what Pruitt is doing, but he’s doing it wrong. We might just go 3-9 or 2-10.

Is that an overreaction? I don’t think so, but hey I reserve the right to put that out there after Week 1. You can’t tell me that the Tennessee team you saw play against Georgia State will win more than five games max.

The team as a whole did not develop at all this offseason, and it was absolutely embarrassing. I don’t know what Pruitt has to do to fix things, but he needs to do it and fast or else a lot more Tennessee fans will be out on him and the program.

Actually, I know what he needs to do; he needs to find a leader on both offense and defense. Trey Smith seems like he’s that guy after trying to motivate his teammates late in the game but if he’s more of a leader than your quarterback then boy we’re in trouble.

I’m done with the whole giving a player the starting spot just because he’s an upperclassman. We need to figure out who is willing to step up and be a leader on each side of the football and make them the starter; I don’t care how good they are.

I’d rather have 11 two and three stars who are willing to give their all for Tennessee each and every week over 11 four and five stars who are worried about looking good in their jersey and just trying to get through the game without giving any effort.

Next. Thoughts and reactions from the preseason finale. dark

They looked dead. They looked like they weren’t interested in playing at all and that is not acceptable at a Power 5 program. Alright, I’m done I don’t have any closing remarks. Thank you for coming to my TED Talk.
