The MTSU Blue Raiders kicked off their football season at home and dominated Tennessee State to emerge as the sole best team in Tennessee

When you think of the best college football team in Tennessee, you may think of the Tennessee Volunteers or maybe Memphis or maybe even Vanderbilt, but that’s not the case for 2019. Based on the first two weeks of the season, MTSU is clearly the best football team in the state.

The Blue Raiders went to the Big House and gave Michigan everything they had but ultimately lost  40-21. Michigan might be down this year after they almost lost to Army, but you can’t take anything away from either of Michigan’s opponents.

Both MTSU and Army could have laid down at any moment and accept they would lose to a top ten team in one of the largest stadiums in America, but neither did. That shows a lot of heart coming from MTSU and proves this team can be pretty special.

On the other hand, Memphis made their statement by beating Ole Miss, Tennessee embarrassed themselves on their home field, and Vanderbilt, well, they’re in the same boat as Tennessee sitting 0-1.

Week 2 was a similar outcome for Vanderbilt and Tennessee as they both are embarrassed again. Memphis cement their spot as the second-best team with a blowout win over Southern while MTSU took it to Tennessee State to squeak above Memphis.

MTSU QB Asher O’Hara showed he’s a stud on Saturday and could be a great replacement for Brent Stockstill. O’Hara threw for 367 yards and rushed for 103 yards. That’s the first time an MTSU QB has thrown for over 300 yards and rushed for over 100 yards in a game.

Chaton Mobley also showed some star potential as he also hit the 100-yard mark in rushing. 104 yards and two touchdowns are where Mobley finished on the night and added 21 yards of receiving too.

The Blue Raiders has shown a lot of heart and guts in their first to games of the season. They’ll be tested once again next week as Duke comes to Murfreesboro to take on the Raiders.

Next. Is it still football season?. dark

Depending on how they look against Duke, they could defend their title as the best college football team in Tennessee and could take a commanding lead. They’re definitely a better watch than Tennessee.
