Tennessee Titans: Where do the Titans go from here
The Tennessee Titans are now 1-2, and they have a lot to fix and not a lot of time, and it starts at the offensive line.
After I said the Titans offense could be really good in 2019, they have turned around and put on two straight horrible performances. I have no clue what has happened between now and then but apparently the offensive line is falling apart, and there’s nothing anyone can do to stop it.
The offensive line was one of the worsts in the league last year when it came to allowing sacks. They allowed 47 sacks last year and just this past game against the Jaguars, Marcus Mariota was sacked nine times.
If you’re allowing nine sacks in a game, then you can’t expect your already injury-prone quarterback to stay healthy for a full season.
It’s very clear how badly the Titans need Taylor Lewan on the offensive line. Lewan is the cornerstone of that offensive line, and it’s appalling how bad they are without him.
Through the first three weeks, Mariota has been sacked a total of 17 times, according to the NFL Research’s Twitter. That’s the most sacks on a single quarterback through the first three weeks since 2002.
Are you interested in the passing grades for the Titans’ offensive linemen? Well, here’s your warning: It’s bad, really bad, like really really bad.
A 12.4? Geez, that’s the definition of horrible. Three-fifths of the offensive line was graded out under 70, which is the line they need to stay above if they’re going to be a good team in 2019.
Bad offensive play results in bad defensive play. The only problem there is the defense was on the field for about ten minutes less than the offense on Thursday. It’s not like they were drained and were on the field for 30-40 minutes, the defense was on the field for only 24 minutes.
I don’t know how to fix the offense’s problems other than block your man upfront and grade out higher than a 12.4. If the offensive line play doesn’t improve, then we could be in for a long season filled with misery. The good thing is the Titans are projected to now draft Jalen Hurts.
If they keep up this play, then they’ll have that opportunity, but they can turn things around against a pretty good Falcons team next Sunday.
