The AFC South is starting to take form, and the Tennessee Titans are sliding to the bottom, but there’s still a chance they can win the division.

The AFC South looks like one of the better divisions in the NFL after three weeks thanks to the Houston Texans and the Indianapolis Colts with the Tennessee Titans right behind the Jacksonville Jaguars.

At the beginning of the season, I had the Titans finishing third in the division right behind the Colts and with the Texans taking the division. A lot has since changed with Andrew Luck retiring so I moved the Titans up to competing with the Texans for the division.

Just a couple of weeks later the Titans have trended downward while every other team is figuring things out. With Marcus Mariota, I don’t know if the Titans will be able to compete with the high power Texans offense or the Colts.

It looks like after Week 3, the Texans are clearly the best team in the AFC South with the Colts immediately behind them and the Titans and Jaguars on the other end of the spectrum.

I don’t see the Titans catching either the Texans or the Colts this year unless they hit some kind of spark on offense. If they hit that spark, I don’t think it’s going to come with Mariota under center. Those two teams are improving each week while the Titans aren’t.

If the Titans continue to stall on offense, they may be looking at the rest of the division from the bottom of the standings. The Jaguars might be hitting stride with Gardner Minshew so it’s going to be difficult for the Titans to keep up with the division.

It will be especially difficult with the Titans not playing another team in their division until Week 12. By the time they play the Jaguars on November 24, the season might be too far gone for them to try to sneak back into the race unless they can beat the non-divisional opponents.

Next. Marcus Mariota's biggest weakness is his pocket presence. dark

It’s going to be a painful season for the Titans if Mariota can’t figure things out. It’s not only him though, but the whole team is also struggling, and their past two performances are not going to help them any throughout the season.
