Tennessee Titans: It would be beneficial to trade Marcus Mariota

The Tennessee Titans have decided to turn a new leaf as they plan to start Ryan Tannehill over Marcus Mariota this Sunday.

At the beginning of the season, I said it would take a lot for Marcus Mariota to not return to the Tennessee Titans in 2020. I am personally not a huge fan of him and haven’t been for a couple of years now, but seeing him fall apart actually upset me.

I think he’s a good quarterback, and in the right system, he will flourish. He just needs to find a franchise willing to put in that system, and the Titans aren’t that franchise.

But now, with the Titans deciding to bench Mariota, they have to make a decision. Do they let him walk at the end of the year or trade him away before the trade deadline and get something out of him and hopefully send him outside of your division.

Trading him would be the most beneficial for the Titans when it comes to Mariota signing with a division rival. The Texans have their quarterback of the future, and both the Jaguars and Colts might too, but those two teams could collapse at any second.

That would open the door for Mariota to stay in the AFC South and sign with someone within the division. That’s the last thing the Titans need to happen. I can already tell you right now if Mariota signs with a team in the division and earns the starting job he will torch the Titans.

So with that in mind moving him out of the division and preferably to the NFC would be the goal for the Titans here. There are a handful of teams that could entertain the idea of adding Mariota to their roster in the NFC.

The Redskins might have their franchise quarterback, but the franchise is currently in shambles, so Mariota could offer advice to their young QB and take over until next season when they have their new head coach.

The Cowboys could also be looking for a new quarterback at the end of the year, so adding Mariota could add competition between him and Dak Prescott. It’s unlikely a trade with Dallas happens, but it’s not off the table.

The Panthers and Buccaneers are also in positions where they might have a quarterback for their future, but they may not be long-term solutions, so giving Mariota a shot wouldn’t hurt them.

I don’t know how likely any of those trades are, but those could be some ideal destinations for the Titans. Getting something in return (ideally draft picks) would also be nice as the Titans could use those to build up their offense.

I would like to see the Titans trade for a young quarterback if they do decide to trade Mariota or get a reasonable draft pick where they can draft a quarterback or two in the 2020 NFL Draft. But then again, the Titans will probably just let him walk because they ruined him.
