FanSided 250 ranks, the top 250 fandoms, and Memphis Tigers basketball fans were ranked at 245 while Tennessee basketball fans were not ranked.

FanSided has released its FanSided 250 rankings. It ranks the 250 best fandoms from sports to celebrities and entertainment. In the rankings, Memphis Tigers basketball fans were ranked 245 while Tennessee basketball fans were not ranked.

When I think of a great college basketball fanbase, I think of Duke, Kentucky, North Carolina, Syracuse, maybe even Tennessee basketball on the bubble, but not Memphis.

Yeah, Memphis Tigers basketball fans are passionate, and they’re proud of their program and what head coach Penny Hardaway is doing there, but does that mean they’re better than Tennessee fans?

Well, FanSided used three categories to determine the rankings of each fandom. Fan vote, search score, and social follows.

Of these three categories, there is only one we can look at and compare. We don’t have access to the fan vote or whatever FanSided’s search score consisted of, but we do have each team’s social follows we can look at.

The Memphis Tigers’ basketball social media accounts total 327,000 followers. The Tennessee Volunteers’ basketball social media accounts total 491,000 followers.

If we’re just comparing numbers, then Memphis has some rookie numbers, and if they’re going to be ranked 245, then Tennessee should be ranked too.

Then again, the college rankings are all messed up. Alcorn State football, North Carolina A&T football, Nebraska Huskers football, and Wisconsin Badgers football were also ranked near the bottom.

I understand Wisconsin is pretty good this year in football this year, but if you look at what Tennessee fans have gone through over the past decade and look at the support that still pours in, then Tennessee would clearly be ahead of any of these fan bases.

I’ll get to Tennessee football fans being snubbed later, but Memphis basketball fans getting the nod over Tennessee basketball fans might be the most absurd thing I’ve seen all week.

Next. Trey Smith deserves every award and recognition he gets. dark

We all know who the real fan base is when it comes to these two fan bases, but it will officially be settled this Saturday when the Tigers visit the Vols in Knoxville.
