How many times do I have to tell you that Tennessee football fans are the best?
Tennessee football fans once again prove they are some of the best in the country after attendance records were released for the 2019 season.
Attendance records for a season are always something interesting to look at, especially after a really good, a really bad season, or in Tennessee football’s case, a really bad then a really good season.
After the start that Tennessee suffered, I would never guess that the Vols’ attendance would be in the top-ten in the country, but VolNation has proved me wrong once again and proves they are one of the best fan bases in the country (I think the best).
The Vols had eight home games this year, and the average attendance went down from 92,984 in 2018, to 87,864 in 2019.
Not ideal, but the terrible start to the season is the reason for that. Even after the bad start to the season, Tennessee fans continued to show up every week to support the Vols.
247Sports released the report, and they seemed to be about as surprised as me after the bad start to the season.
"“Surprisingly, Tennessee had nearly 7,000 more fans at Neyland for its Week 2 game vs. BYU after a home loss to Georgia State to open the season,” 247Sports said. “From a capacity and seating improvements standpoint, believe it or not, 65,000 fans in a sold-out stadium makes for a unique atmosphere compared to the scattered pockets of “announced” crowds inside venues with capacities exceeding 100,000. With many struggling to fill stadiums, nothing looks worse for a program in the national spotlight than entire sections of empty seats on television. Expect Tennessee’s attendance to be closer to its 2018 average in 2020 after the way the Vols finished Jeremy Pruitt’s second campaign.”"
I, myself, did not go to a game this year as many didn’t, which is indicated by the drop in average attendance this year, but I expect that to change this year.
Tennessee fans showed up every game, even when it looked like the Vols could go 2-10 this year. That alone proves that Tennessee fans are the best in the country.
It was a roller-coaster regular season for the Vols, but the fans and players stuck in there and took the punches, and they will be rewarded on January 2nd with a bowl game against Indiana.
