Tennessee Titans don’t deserve to be underdog against Patriots
The Tennessee Titans have opened as underdogs in its Wild Card game against the New England Patriots, but they don’t deserve to be the underdogs.
Now, now before you freak out, hear me out. I know it’s the big, scary New England Patriots, but based on what we’ve seen throughout the second half of the NFL season, the Tennessee Titans do not deserve to be the underdogs in its Wild Card game.
Obviously, the oddsmakers are going to look at the Patriots’ and its recent playoff success and the Titans’ and favor the Patriots, but based on only each team’s performance, the Titans deserve to be favored over the Patriots.
The Patriots are 4-4 in its last eight games, with three of its four losses being quality losses to playoff teams, but its most recent loss to the Dolphins is one of the worst losses by a playoff team this year.
The Titans’ record isn’t much better. The Titans went 5-3 in its last eight games with losses to the Panthers eight games ago and, more recently, to the Texans and the Saints.
The only common opponent that both teams lost to is the Texans. The Titans went 1-1 against the Titans with a 24-21 loss and a 35-14 win. The Patriots lost its only game against the Texans and lost 28-22.
You can say that Tom Brady is a better quarterback than Ryan Tannehill, although if Tannehill would’ve started from Week 1, I think he could’ve given Brady a run for his money statistically.
The Titans also have a much better running game with Derrick Henry than the Patriots. The overall offensive statistics balance out if you’re comparing category-by-category, but the Titans offense is ranked three spots higher than the Patriots offense.
When it comes to defense, the Titans are below average, and the Patriots are the best in the league. If you told me this game could be a 13-10 game, I wouldn’t at all be surprised.
The Titans could very well continue to be the hot team and take down the Patriots, and if that happens, then there’s a 100% chance that Tannehill is the Titans’ starting quarterback in 2020.
