Tennessee Basketball confuses me
Tennessee basketball bounces back from its 17-point loss to Georgia with a 21-point win against Vanderbilt, and the Vols are officially confusing me.
After Tennessee basketball’s 17-point loss to Georgia on Wednesday, I thought the downfall was coming. And right when I thought that, the Vols bounce back and embarrass Vanderbilt in Nashville.
Tennessee beat the Commodores 66-45 in a game where the offense and defense were both clicking in a rival’s gym.
The Vols went into halftime down by one in what looked like it could be a long, hard-fought game between the in-state rivals. The second half was another story as the Vols opened up its game and ran away with the lead.
The defense was clicking so well; the Vols ended Vanderbilt’s 1,080 consecutive games with a three-pointer made. Yes, that’s right Vanderbilt did not make a three-pointer for the first time in 1,080 games.
Vanderbilt fans voiced their thoughts on the Commodores struggle beyond the three-point line by booing the team late in the second half.
Vandy coach Jerry Stackhouse was not happy with how the fans handled the end of the game, and honestly, I don’t blame him. a
"“The fans were more concerned about the 3s than us really even getting baskets,” Vanderbilt coach Jerry Stackhouse said. “I felt for those kids. The real streak that we want to end is the losing streak.”"
Offensively, three Vols finished the game with double-digits in the points column. John Fulkerson and Yves Pons finished with 12 points each, and Jordan Bowden led the team with 21 points.
The Vols still struggled from three just shooting one-for-eight but finished the night shooting 26-for-49 from the field at 53%.
A better night shooting for the Vols, which is a plus. You can add the fact that Vanderbilt fans’ night has been ruined as an added bonus.
Now would be a good time for the Vols to gain some momentum and carry it for a couple of weeks. Up next is Ole Miss and Kansas is after that, then it’s back to SEC play.
