Trey Smith said he’s returning for his senior season because of “unfinished business,” and that should be Tennessee football’s 2020 motto.

Trey Smith announced he would be returning in 2020 to help Tennessee football get back to the mountain top.

Tennessee football’s Twitter released a video with Smith detailing why he’s returning for his senior season.

It looks like, for the players, at least, the team motto for 2020 might be “Unfinished Business,” and I think that’s a perfect motto with how 2019 finished.

The Vols season didn’t start out ideal, but it finished in the best way possible. It looked like the Vols would go 2-10 and finish the season with eight wins.

That leaves the Vols with some unfinished business. Some unfinished business with Georgia, Florida, and Alabama especially.

In the video, Trey Smith shows he trusts in Jeremy Pruitt and the coaching staff and with him being a leader in the locker room that will translate to the whole team.

For the most part, I think the team trusts in the coaches, but if they can take that to the next level and continue off of their success, then 2020 will be the year where some unfinished business will be taken care of.

It’s already Year 3 for Pruitt, so he’s going to have to continue to prove he has what it takes to recruit at a high level and turn that into success on the field.

The Vols are set up to have a pretty good 2020 season; it’s only a matter of if the players can be developed appropriately and if they can produce on the field. It’s too early to be making predictions, but I’ll say I don’t think there will be many issues with on-field production.

Pruitt is building something special in Knoxville, and I think it will continue to show in 2020. The fact that Trey Smith is coming back for his senior season shows that Pruitt has something unique here.
