The Tennessee women’s basketball program is heating up with its sixth straight SEC win, and that’s exactly what they need right now.

Tennessee’s women’s basketball program has been struggling the past couple of seasons, but in Kellie Harper’s first year as head coach, it seems like things are quickly turning around on Rocky Top.

The Lady Vols won its sixth consecutive SEC game on Thursday night with a big win against Vanderbilt.

Harper said she and her players remembered the embarrassing loss to Vanderbilt at home last year, which was the first time Vanderbilt has beaten the Vols in Knoxville in all 34 of their meetings.

Although this game was in Nashville, that loss still didn’t sit well with anyone in that locker room, and that showed on the court.

Rennia Davis remembered that game well and led the Lady Vols on offense with 22 points. Jazmine Massingale followed right behind her with 14 points of her own.

The Lady Vols are on fire right in the middle of its SEC schedule, and that’s exactly what they need going into probably its most difficult stretch of the season.

With its sixth straight SEC win, the Lady Vols have improved to a 7-1 record in the SEC, which already equals their SEC win total from last season (7-9).

If you were upset when Harper was hired as the women’s basketball head coach, it might be time to get over that. It looks like things are going to work out with Harper and the Vols, although it is still early in her coaching career at Tennessee.

The Lady Vols’ will have their toughest test of the season next when they’ll go to Columbia, South Carolina, to play the 20-1, top-ranked Gamecocks.
