Tennessee football could use an “unreal football mind”
Tennessee football has named Joe Osovet its tight ends coach, and he brings an “unreal football mind” to the offense, something the Vols could use.
Tennessee football’s offense struggled throughout a good portion of the 2019 season but was bailed out thanks to the defense. That’s what Jeremy Pruitt offers as the head coach but could use a good offense in the years going forward.
That’s why Pruitt has named Joe Osovet Tennessee’s new tight ends coach. This will be Osovet’s third position on the Tennessee staff in as many years, but his first job as a position coach.
In 2018, Osovet served in the Player Development department at Tennessee. In 2019, he served as Tennessee’s Director of Programming for Football.
Osovet started running a similar offensive system to RPO in 2001 and has dominated in that offensive system since which is one of the reasons that led him to Tennessee.
The creativity that Osovet could bring to Tennessee’s offense as a position coach is something that Tennessee could use in 2020.
The college football offense is ever-changing, and if the Vols want to be successful this decade, they are more than likely going to have to change with it. With Osovet, the potential for Tennessee’s offense to be as good as the defense is there.
Osovet has received high praise from his previous college football stops and Bryan Blair, Osovet’s agent, has even shared his thoughts on the new tight ends coach.
"“He is one of the best recruiters and coaches I have ever seen because of his energy and authenticity. Joe is a tireless worker and an unreal football mind. I am excited for his future.”"
Blair isn’t the only one. Former coaches and players alike have good words to say about Osovet. That can only offer good thoughts for the future of Tennessee’s offense.
Depending on how the quarterback play is this year, we could see the Vols offense potentially need to get creative and if that’s the case, then Osovet could be the guy to lead the Vols in the right direction.
