Tennessee basketball takes down Alabama in Tuscaloosa 69-68 in a thriller for the Vols’ first SEC win since January 21.

Going into Tuesday, Tennessee basketball needed a win against Alabama in Tuscaloosa to get back on track before things spiral out of control.

The Vols were able to get that much-needed win on the road 69-68 and win its first SEC game since January 21.

The basketVols needed to back up their talk on the court after the Tennessee basketball Twitter tweeted a picture erasing the Alabama logo.

Well, the Vols took care of business on Tuesday night and backed up the social media trash talk thanks to John Fulkerson leading the Vols on offense with 22 points. The Tennessee basketball Twitter account responded appropriately to the big win.

Jordan Bowden followed Fulky in the score column with 20 points despite going 0-for-6 from three. From the field, Bowden shot 5-for-17 and 10-for-11 from the free-throw line.

The Vols shot and made more free throws than Alabama; the Vols made 23 free throws compared to Alabama’s five. Alabama made up for that from three shooting 11-for-27 as a team compared to Tennessee’s 2-for-18.

This was a big win for Tennessee, but if the Vols expect to compete with the top teams in the country and Kentucky this Saturday, then they’re going to have to make some threes, or they won’t stand a chance. 2-for-18 from three won’t cut it against a top-tier team.

After Uros Plavsic started to gain some momentum, he shot 1-for-5 and finished the night with just three points. Santiago Vescovi struggled shooting as well as he shot 2-for-15 from the field and finished with only eight points.

Other than that, Yves Pons was the only big contributor for Tennessee’s offense with 14 points and shooting 5-for-8 from the field.

Not a bad night for the Vols in a much-needed win, but a lot of improvement is necessary if the Vols don’t want to get run over by Kentucky this Saturday.
