A very important free agency is ahead for the Tennessee Titans, and it could consist of signing a future Hall of Fame quarterback.

A while back, I proposed the idea of signing Tom Brady, allowing him to compete for the starting job with Ryan Tannehill. The Tennessee Titans were proposed as an option, but the Chargers seemed more likely.

Now, as it turns out, the Titans are currently on top of Brady’s list. As I said on Friday, if the new Collective Bargaining Agreement goes into effect before the beginning of the 2020 year, then issues could quickly arise for the Titans.

That was with signing Derrick Henry and Tannehill, and Brady was out of the picture. Now with Brady potentially in the middle of the picture, things could have gotten ten times more complicated.

Adam Schefter joined the Rich Eisen Show to lay everything out with Brady’s situation and that ESPN’s Jeff Darlington sees the Titans as Brady’s first option.

"“Jeff Darlington basically … I mean, handicapped the Titans as the favorite right now,” Schefter said.” Which I was like, ‘Whoa. OK. I knew that Tennessee was an option,’ but he made it out to be more of an option than I realized it to be.“And in his mind, to rank the teams right now, would be Tennessee, Las Vegas, and New England.”"

Not only does this change Tannehill’s situation if the Titans sign Brady, but it could also change Henry’s decision if he’s not 100% sold on staying in Nashville.

We’ve seen reports where both, especially Tannehill, want to stay in Nashville long-term, but the addition of Brady could change all of that.

March 18th is the beginning of the 2020 year for the NFL. We’re not even at the end of February yet, and this is setting up to be one of the most exciting, or at least interesting, offseasons the Titans have had in a while.

There are a lot of important decision-makers with ties to the Patriots and Brady, so even if Brady is interested in coming to Tennessee, don’t think the Titans will pass on him just because they want to keep Tannehill.

General manager Jon Robinson is an ex-Patriots front office member, and head coach Mike Vrabel is a former Patriots player, who played with Brady. Those two guys alone can make or break the Titans’ decision to sign Brady.

Next. The Tennessee Titans should consider Vanderbilt’s Ke’Shawn Vaughn. dark

We’re less than a month away from one of the most pivotal offseasons in franchise history. It could determine if the Titans go to the Super Bowl in the next few years, or even win it. This offseason could also send the Titans back to 8-8 or 7-9 and watching the playoffs from home.
