Tennessee basketball beat Florida on Saturday night, and we got a few surprises throughout Saturday as we watched the Vols get the win.

After back-to-back losses to Auburn and Arkansas, Tennessee basketball gets the win against its rival, the Florida Gators. The Saturday night win might come as a surprise to some after Tennessee’s recent luck, but that wasn’t the only surprise on Saturday.

Before tip-off, Tennessee had to surprise one of its break out players since the beginning of the new year, Santiago Vescovi, with a visit from his family.

The family made the 5,000-mile trip to visit Knoxville and watch Vescovi play, and after the game, Vescovi said he “just felt different” with his family in the building, and he played like it too.

He finished the night with 11 points, one rebound, and four assists and shot 1-for-2 from three and 3-for-5 from the field. One of the better shooting nights we’ve seen from him recently, even though he only finished with 11 points.

Vescovi’s family will hang around for a bit and stay for the Kentucky game this Tuesday in Lexington and the season finale against Auburn back in Knoxville. Maybe they can offer the life that this Tennessee team has needed, and we can finish on a good note.

That wasn’t the only surprise on Saturday, though. Of course, the win was quite a surprise after the Vols have been struggling, but another surprise was Tennessee’s shooting.

The team finished the night shooting 52.1% from the field and 42.9% from three. When’s the last time we could say that Tennessee shot over 40% from three? It’s been a while and Vescovi’s feelings on Saturday night must have transferred to others when they were on the court.

Josiah-Jordan James and John Fulkerson enjoyed a good night on the offensive side of the ball as well. Fulky finished the night with 22 points, and James finished with 12 points and shot 50% from the field and from three.

Saturday was good to Tennessee, and now we’re in the final week of the regular season. It won’t be easy, but with two games against two top-25 teams, Tennessee could give us some more surprises and ruin the end of the season for two SEC foes.
