After beating Kentucky, Tennessee Basketball gets blown out by Auburn
After beating Kentucky earlier this week, it looked like Tennessee Basketball might have a positive end to the season, but that was not the case.
Coming off a big mid-week win against rival Kentucky, Tennessee Basketball had a chance to finish the season on a high note with a home finale win against Auburn, but instead, the Tigers routed the Vols.
Tennessee hung in with Auburn for the first ten minutes of the game, but after that, it was pretty much all Auburn from there as the Tigers went on to win its fifth straight game over the Vols.
Auburn was able to get a decent lead, build on it, and finish the Vols in the second half. It looked like the Tennessee team that beat Kentucky only a few days ago had left, and the barely average Tennessee team replaced them.
John Fulkerson led the Vols on offense once again with 19 points and seven rebounds. Jordan Bowden followed right behind him with 17 points, four rebounds, and four assists. The only other offense came from Santiago Vescovi, and he finished with 13 points, two rebounds, and two assists.
Other than those three players, the Tennessee offense seemed to be non-existent. The other six players on the roster totaled 14 points.
With this loss, the Vols fall to 17-14 on the season and 9-9 in SEC play. This loss also pretty much ended Tennessee’s NCAA Tournament hopes. A win against Auburn might’ve been enough to sneak into the tournament, but the Vols will have to sit out of the Big Dance in 2020.
Now all Tennessee has left for this season is the SEC Tournament, and the Vols will try to go out on a high note in Nashville after a disappointing season.
