The Tennessee Titans have traded Jurrell Casey for a seventh-round draft pick to free up more cap space in anticipation of a big signing.

Long time Tennessee Titan, Jurrell Casey, is now on the move after the Titans have traded him to the Denver Broncos for a mere seventh-round pick.

Maybe it’s just my personal opinion, but I think Casey, after everything he’s done for the Titans and the years he has put in with the Titans, he’s worth a bit more than a single seventh-round pick.

A pro-bowler being traded for a seventh-round draft pick is a bit absurd, but the deal is done, so there’s not much we can do now.

The Titans didn’t trade Casey because of his on-field performance, but instead because of the contract he had attached to him. In five days, Casey was guaranteed over $11 million for this season, so the Titans had to move him if they wanted to make another splash in free agency.

The Titans also signed Vic Beasley on Tuesday, bringing its cap space to around $19 million, but now, with Casey out of the picture, the Titans have $30 million to play with.

The NFL is a business, and sometimes that business is more fun than others, and, personally, this part of this business is on the less fun side. Casey was a fan favorite in Nashville by many, including me. A strip-sack by Casey in the AFC Divisional Round sent the Titans to the AFC Championship.

So what does this trade mean for the future of the Titans in free agency? Well, something big is on the horizon. It may come today, maybe tomorrow, or maybe next week, but it’s coming.

Jadeveon Clowney is the rumored name to be making his way to Nashville. Would I be opposed? Casey for Clowney? I wouldn’t be opposed. I think Clowney is still a great pass rusher, and out of the $30 million in cap space, it looks like Clowney will go for around $20M, so he’s in the price range.

Next. Tennessee Football season still on for now. dark

Casey is out, Clowney could very well be on his way, and the Titans are continuing to upgrade on both sides of the football while staying under cap space. This could be a big win for general manager Jon Robinson if he can pull this off and still keep all of the Titans’ assets.
