If you know anything about Derek Barnett, then you know that he dominated at the University of Tennessee, and he could do it with the Tennessee Titans too.

Coming out of Tennessee, Derek Barnett was a first-round pick to the Philadelphia Eagles. That wasn’t surprising to anyone, but I would love to see him in a Tennessee Titans uniform for the 2020 season and beyond.

He broke Reggie White’s career sack record at Tennessee and followed his NFL path by being drafted by the Eagles. Unfortunately, White never joined the Titans, but we could definitely change that for Barnett.

Barnett grew up in Nashville and obviously played college football for Tennessee, so he already has a special place in many Titans fans’ hearts, including mine, so it wouldn’t be a difficult sell to the fan base.

But why would the Eagles trade away Barnett if he’s so good? Well, the rumor is that they’re interested in Jacksonville Jaguars EDGE rusher Yannick Ngakoue, and if they trade for him, then they’re going to most likely have to trade away someone, and that could be Barnett.

In Barnett’s 35 game career, he’s totaled 14 sacks, 67 tackles, three forced fumbles, and a touchdown. Yes, a touchdown.

He’s had some injury issues since joining the Eagles, but for his production rate, it would definitely be worth the risk if the Eagles are willing to accept reasonable offers.

If the Titans need another EDGE rusher, then I would love to see Barnett return to Tennessee in a Titans uniform. He was a fan favorite in Knoxville and would undoubtedly be a fan favorite in Nashville.

The Titans might not need to give up more than a pick or two for Barnett either, and it wouldn’t be a big hit to what the Titans do on draft day. Maybe a couple Day 3 draft picks for Barnett, and the Titans could be set.
