Jeremy Pruitt and Tennessee football have been busy over the past month or so on the virtual recruiting trail as they try to continue to build towards a strong 2021 class.

Pruitt is especially using his defensive expertise in this instance as he has two top 100 athletes interested in coming to Rocky Top.

The first, the No.1 cornerback in Texas, Latrell McCutchin. He announced his top-ten teams, and they are Ohio State, LSU, USC, Oklahoma, Florida, Georgia, Alabama, Virginia Tech and Florida State, along with Tennessee.

Surprisingly, the Austin, Texas, prospect is not even considering the University of Texas, but instead, he is considering the real UT in Tennessee. I think the Oklahoma game could be an important one for Tennessee in signing McCutchin.

The 6-1, 176-pound four-star prospect is a dynamic player that could be dangerous in Tennessee’s secondary. He could potentially team up with Bryce Thompson and/or Alontae Taylor to make another solid duo in the secondary.

McCutchin was an Alabama commit but reopened his recruitment last month. Now, he’s announced his top-ten as he begins looking for a new team or his confidence he doesn’t have anymore in Alabama.

He suffered an ACL tear during his Junior season, so we don’t have a lot of relevant tape on him, but we know what kind of defender he can be in the secondary. If he proves he has what it takes to be a top-tier SEC defender, then we could see him stay uncommitted until National Signing Day.

The next top-100 prospect that the Vols are in the running for is Birmingham, Alabama, prospect Jeremiah Williams. He announced his top eight teams with a video on Twitter.

With Tennessee, the other teams that are competing for Williams are Florida, Georgia, Auburn, LSU, Oklahoma, Alabama, and Nebraska.

He’s the 5th ranked weakside defensive end prospect in the 2021 class and the 67th overall prospect in the class, according to 247Sports.

Before everything eas put on hold due to the coronavirus, Williams visited Alabama, Florida, and Tennessee, so naturally, it seems that those three teams have a slight upper hand as of right now.

Williams is also from Alabama, so Nick Saban has the advantage over Tennessee and Florida for being an in-state recruit.

Nevertheless, Pruitt is an amazing recruiter, and he has a great recruiting staff, so I wouldn’t give Williams to Alabama just yet.

The way things are looking for Tennessee’s front seven, Pruitt is going to need as much help as he can get on the front seven. There are some athletes in the 2020 class and some athletes that the Vols already have, but you can never have too many athletes that can play multiple positions on defense.

Whatever Pruitt is doing, it’s working, and whenever things start to open back up, he could continue to expand that and build on what he’s doing whenever recruits can make in-person visits again.
