Tennessee Football: The best corner in the country likes the Vols
The recruiting trail is hot right now for Tennessee football and Jeremy Pruitt as they are drawing interest from some of the best athletes in the country.
While recruits are forced to stay at home, and they are unable to make in-person visits, they are still narrowing down their recruiting lists, and Tennessee football is consistently popping up on top athletes’ list.
Players of all rankings, especially players in ESPN’s top 150 rankings and now Pruitt could be getting an elite-level prospect.
This time, head coach Jeremy Pruitt and the Vols are trying to sign the best cornerback in the country. Five-star cornerback Tony Grimes announced his top-eight teams on his Twitter and the Vols are once again competing for top talent.
The cornerback from Virginia is the No.1 ranked corner in the country, the seventh-ranked player overall, and the best player in Virginia, according to 247Sports. His list includes some of the best schools in the country, and the southeast and the Vols are with them.

In his announcement, he narrowed his list of teams down to eight. The other seven teams that are with Tennessee are Clemson, Virginia, Texas A&M, Ohio State, Penn State, North Carolina, and Georgia.
Standing at six-foot, 180 pounds, is extremely athletic, and his athleticism shows not only on the football field but also on the track. He’s a two-sport athlete that also dominates in track and field, no surprise there, and it shows on the gridiron.
He’s fast, he can run with anyone, and that doubles for his coverage skills. He might not be a two-sport athlete at the D-1 level, but he will be one heck of an athlete wherever he goes.
Pruitt’s defensive mind, which has already been called one of the best in the country, could take Grimes to the next level. He’s not far off from being ready to go pro, but there’s a big difference between getting drafted and being a highly coveted first-round pick.
The Vols currently have two three-star defensive backs committed already, but there’s no doubt the addition of Grimes couldn’t hurt the Vols’ 2021 class or secondary.
