Adoree’ Jackson is ready for his new role with the Tennessee Titans
The Tennessee Titans could be moving Adoree’ Jackson to a new role in 2020, and he’s ready to take on his new role with the Titans’ secondary.
The Tennessee Titans defense was a big reason that the Titans were in the AFC Championship last year. Without the defense, who knows if Ryan Tannehill is given the opportunity to get going in the middle of the season and become the next Titans’ contract for the foreseeable future, who knows if Derrick Henry becomes the rushing champion last season.
The defense will likely need to come back in 2020 as good as they were in 2020. There are some changes when it comes to the defense as we’ve seen this offseason, and another one could be coming with Adoree’ Jackson.
No, he’s not leaving the Titans, nor is he being traded, but he will be taking on a new role with the Titans. The fourth-year corner is anticipating a new role with the arrival of the new Defensive Backs Coach Anthony Midget.
Jackson’s new role could mean he’s going to be more involved as a nickel corner. Jackson mentioned that he could be inheriting this new role in a virtual press conference on Wednesday.
"“If I’m going to be playing more inside at nickel, and the difference is it’s more about being more aware of your surroundings for what the safeties may have, or the linebackers and everything, because you all play on one accord,” Jackson said. “When you’re playing corner you pretty much have to worry about yourself in those aspects, and playing the nickel is a lot of different assignments and alignments and techniques that come into play.”“I think a lot of times teams are looking at matchups and they’re putting their No. 1 guy in the slot for a big percentage of the game,” safety Kenny Vaccaro said. “Somebody like Michael Thomas will go to the slot sometimes. Davante Adams, you’ll see him in the slot. You see guys try to take advantage of that matchup.”"
Being the nickel corner will allow Jackson the opportunity to cover some of the best receivers in the league that will line up in the slot.
I think he will fit in well in this new role if he does become the Titans’ nickel corner. Jackson can be an equalizer for some coaches who may be able to move some of their best receivers to the slot and catch defenses slipping.
Jackson can run with pretty much any receiver in the league, and he’s versatile enough to cover anyone from a No.1 receiver to a tight end or running back. Even the best route runners struggle in finding separation from Jackson, who is agile and able to move in any direction at any time.
If the Titans go through with this move, it could pay off and be one of the best moves this offseason when it comes to defensive gameplans and schemes. If the Titans are looking for a nickel corner on their roster, they can’t go wrong with Adoree’ Jackson.
