Tennessee Football’s offensive line is not to be messed with
Tennessee football’s offensive line is expected to be one of the best in the SEC, and they could be the anchor for the offense.
When you think about Tennessee football’s offense, the first thing you probably think of is, who’s going to be the quarterback? If it’s Jarrett Guarantano, can he be consistent enough to get the job done? Will Eric Gray build off his dominance from the end of the 2019 season?
There are a few questions with Tennessee’s offense, but there’s also one definitive statement, and that Tennessee’s offensive line is one of the best in the SEC, if not the best with the addition of Cade Mays.
There may be some debate about how good Tennessee’s offensive line is among other SEC foes, but Tennessee is near the top.
ESPN and SEC Network analyst Cole Cubelic sparked the debate when he released his top-five SEC offensive lines in the SEC for the 2020 season.
You can’t argue that Alabama doesn’t have the best offensive line in the SEC. For years that’s been the case, and I don’t think that would be any different for the 2020 season. For everyone else after Alabama, it may come as a surprise that Tennessee sits at No. 2 and leads the SEC East.
If you are surprised, you shouldn’t be because Tennessee’s 2020 offensive line is a force to be reckoned with.
Jeremy Pruitt has been a big part of building Tennessee’s offensive line and could have recruited four of the five starters on the offensive line to Tennessee, with Trey Smith being the only player to commit to Tennessee before the Pruitt-era.
Pruitt brought center Brandon Kennedy with him from Alabama in 2018, signed Wanya Morris and Darnell Wright as a part of the 2019 class, and added former five-star Cade Mays to the depth chart after he transferred from Georgia earlier this offseason.
Those five guys lining up next to each other to protect the quarterback and get a push for the running back makes me think that Tennessee’s offensive potential could be sky-high.
Behind those five guys, Tennessee has some serious depth behind them with some elite talent that will be waiting for their opportunity to shine as well.
Tennessee’s schedule gets a bit more difficult in 2020, but it looks like Pruitt planned accordingly, as everything is starting to come together for the Vols.
