CBS Sports released its ranking of the top-ten safeties in the NFL, and Tennessee Titans’ safety Kevin Byard still isn’t getting the respect he deserves.

When you’re ranked in the top-ten at your position in the NFL, it’s a pretty big deal. There’s no doubt that Tennessee Titans’ safety Kevin Byard is one of the best safeties in the NFL, but I think it’s fair to say that Byard was snubbed in his spot in the rankings.

If you were to ask Titans fans where they think Byard should be, they’ll likely tell you that he should take the top spot, and after watching him since he came into the league out of Middle Tennessee State University, it’s hard to disagree with them.

At the lowest, I think that Byard belongs in No. 4 or No. 5, but he shouldn’t fall outside of the top-five. In CBS Sports’ rankings, Byard did fall outside the top-five and barely made it in the top-ten.

The “Voice of the Star” Patrik Walker put the rankings together for CBS Sports. If we’re taking notes, he’s also snubbed Derrick Henry in a previous ranking. In Henry’s case, the No. 4 running back in the league isn’t as bad as this safeties ranking, but many would argue that Henry is the top running back in the league, or at least No. 2.

Byard ranked No. 9 in the top-ten safeties list. Earl Thomas is the only safety to rank behind Byard. Derwin James ranked directly ahead of Byard at No. 8, Devin McCourty at No. 7, Justin Simmons at No. 6, Anthony Harris at No. 5, Harrison Smith at No. 4, Jamal Adams at No. 3, Minkah Fitzpatrick at No. 2, and Tyrann Mathieu at the top of the list at No. 1.

This isn’t anything new for Byard. Since he’s made his debut in the NFL he’s been underrated time after time, so this is just the most recent example of Byard not getting the respect he deserves.

Next. Tennessee Titans make some off-the-field acquisitions. dark

Same old thing, different day for Byard, and there’s nothing wrong with that. He will have to continue to dominate on the field this fall, and if he and the Titans remain under the radar, then that’ll make beating some of the best teams in the league more fun.
