It’s looking like the Tennessee Titans will play this fall, but could we see an exodus of NFL players opting out of the 2020 season?

With the NFL season creeping closer, Tennessee Titans fans are slowly getting more and more excited for the potential of there being a full season this fall. Even though there will likely be a full season, fans in the stadiums seem less likely, and we might not see all the players we know and love (or maybe hate) on the football field this season.

The NFL and NFLPA are discussing a possible option for players to opt-out of the 2020 season if they don’t feel comfortable due to COVID-19, according to Tom Pelissero.

Players that have a pre-existing condition, family with pre-existing conditions, and general concerns with COVID-19 could have the option to opt-out of playing the 2020 season.

There would have to be an agreed-upon date between the players association and the NFL to serve as a deadline for players to opt-out. That date is currently unknown, but players are expected to report to training camp on July 28, so a decision will have to be made soon to give players the opportunity to discuss their options before training camp arrives.

Some players and coaches have voiced concerns over playing football during a pandemic, and Dr. Anthony Fauci has also been critical of playing sports this fall. So with an opt-out option likely coming for NFL players, could we see an exodus of players opting-out of the 2020 season?

As much as I want to see a full season played with every player participating, I don’t think anyone should be forced to play if they don’t feel safe, especially if they have a pre-existing condition and could be vulnerable to the virus.

We’ve seen a handful of baseball players opt-out of the 2020 season with pretty much every franchise being affected by players opting-out. That will likely be the same case for the NFL. There will likely be at least a few players on every roster opt-out of playing the 2020 season.

Next. Tennessee Titans’ “Big 3” won’t be outside the top-ten for long. dark

The real question is, who will opt-out? If a handful of big-name players opt-out, then many other players throughout the league could follow.
