Tennessee Football will likely lose some depth chart in its secondary as Brandon Davis has entered the transfer portal over the weekend.

Jeremy Pruitt specializes in the secondary, so when he was announced as Tennessee football’s new head coach, I had hoped that the secondary would be elite with lockdown defenders. I still expect that to be the case as he’s done a solid job working his way to that point so far.

Unfortunately, it will be without Brandon Davis, a redshirt sophomore, who announced he is entering the transfer portal.

Davis hasn’t been the player that he was hoping to be coming into college as a three-star athlete. The announcement was made on Twitter, as Davis said he made it official.

"“I would like to thank my family and friends who’s been with me throughout my journey I’m on and continuing to be on,” Davis wrote. “I would also like to thank the coaches whose helped me throughout my years at UT! I will be entering the transfer portal and reopening my recruiting process.”"

We didn’t get to see too much from Davis in his two years in Knoxville. He played in only one game, which came in 2019 against UAB, where he didn’t record any stats.

Although he wasn’t a star player or a player who had more than one game of experience, it’s a loss that Tennessee doesn’t need.

Although the secondary looks like it’s going to be pretty good in 2020, without depth, one or two key players can’t play for whatever reason, and the Vols are on the brink of looking for alternatives beyond the secondary depth chart, and that’s something that I don’t want the Vols to deal with in an already weird season.
