Tennessee Football teased the return of double stripes on the pants, which would bring another exciting change to the Vols’ uniforms.

Tennessee football has had quite a few adjustments to its uniforms over the years. Since the turn of the century, a few different designs on the pants have been tried, but it looks like Jeremy Pruitt’s Vols are returning to an old design after having plain orange and white pants in 2018.

Tennessee has sported a few different stripe designs on its pants since the turn of the century. Whether that be the fat orange stripe from the early 2000s, the double stripe sported until 2015, or the single half stripe half checkerboard, the Vols have looked for new designs on their pants the past couple of decades.

When Pruitt arrived to Knoxville, he was about getting Tennessee back to where they were 20 years ago. With the absence of the smokey grey jerseys, it seemed as if tradition was another priority.

Tennessee football’s Twitter teased that the Vols could be returning an old friend to get the feeling of the good ol days back on Rocky Top.

The change is nothing new to the Vols, but the addition of the double stripe to the pants has been in high demand since Pruitt moved away from the single stripe that ended in a checkerboard.

Tennessee sported the double stripe on its pants until the 2015 season when Tennessee moved on from Adidas and joined Nike. Instead of keeping the double stripes, Nike put its stamp on the Tennessee uniforms by coming up with something that Tennessee fans have never seen before.

I hated to see the half stripe, half checkerboard design go when Pruitt arrived on campus, but I didn’t necessarily mind the change with the new head coach. Anything to help me forget the 2017 season.

If you want an idea of what the new stripes could look like on Tennessee’s uniforms, look no further than Tennessee’s resident “uniform boy” Chad Fields.

The new change will definitely be welcomed by most in Vol Nation. If Pruitt can make sure the Vols play as good as they’ll look, then I think he will be sitting pretty good at the end of the 2020 season.
