TSSAA announced that high school Tennessee sports will take place in the fall, at least the football season, which means the college football season will happen, right?

Tennessee sports will begin taking the field again this fall with the start of high school football season officially being announced.

The Tennessee high school football season will come at a twist, though. There will be daily temperature checks, fan temperature checks, weekly screenings, and no scrimmages. These new regulations will start with the football season and will carry over to other sports for the rest of the school year.

If a player’s temperature is 100.4 or higher, they will be forced to go home and can only return after they prove they don’t have COVID-19. If a team that makes the playoffs has a COVID-19 outbreak, they will be forced to forfeit the game. Schools will also be recommended to limit attendance, but won’t be required.

When it comes to the season, TSSAA approved a hybrid football season. That means there will be eight regular-season games starting on September 18. The first round of the playoffs have been eliminated, and the top two teams in each region will advance to the playoffs.

For the teams that don’t make the playoffs, they’ll have the opportunity to host two “bowl games” after the regular season.

The regular season could start earlier if Governor Bill Lee gives TSSAA the all-clear before the end of August.

With the high school football season going to happen in Tennessee, it adds to the number of states in the SEC and Big 12 regions that will have high school football this fall. With this being the case, the college football season has to happen, right?

If high school athletes can play football in the fall, surely college football can be played too. It is looking more likely the college football season will be played as the PAC-12 is now exploring options to play more than a conference-only schedule, and the Big 12 and SEC are still expected to play a full schedule.

As the season nears, decisions will soon have to be made. With high school football being played in more states by the week, the college football season is more likely to happen.
