Tennessee Football is working on a great recruiting class, and with its newest commit, Jeremy Pruitt continues to use his DB expertise to win over recruits.

Jeremy Pruitt is a defensive mastermind, and he excels in the secondary. Tennessee football continues to benefit from his expertise as the Vols get another commitment from an elite defender.

Four-star defensive back Damarius McGhee committed to Tennessee on Thursday. He’s recently risen up the ESPN and 247Sports recruiting rankings and has earned his fourth star from both.

The Vols won the recruiting battle for McGhee over Alabama, Louisville, Georgia, Miami, and Ole Miss. Alabama recently offered him, but McGhee didn’t wait long after Alabama’s offer to commit to the Vols. That could be because the Vols were one of the first teams to jump on board and offer him a scholarship.

247Sports has him ranked as the No. 89 overall player in the 2021 class, No. 8 cornerback and No. 12 recruit in the state of Florida. There’s no doubt that he has elite talent and Pruitt was able to get the commitment before other elite programs began to notice.

McGhee is a very skilled playmaker that can do just about anything for his team. He excels at cornerback but also plays wide receiver and returns punts for his high school team.

At cornerback, he’s aggressive and physical. He’s the prototypical Pruitt DB, and if you watch him play, then you’ll quickly realize that. There’s no surprise Pruitt wanted him as early as he did.

It’s been weird summer for recruiting for teams throughout college sports and Tennessee. The Vols received a flurry of verbal commits early in the year but haven’t been making very many headlines as of late. That’s mostly because there aren’t a lot of spots remaining for the Vols.

After some decommits and reworking the class, McGhee is the 24th verbal commit in Tennessee’s 2021 class. That leaves one spot remaining once again for the Vols.
