Is Tennessee Football ready to win the SEC East in 2020?
Not too many people expect Tennessee Football to win the SEC East in 2020, but former Vanderbilt quarterback Jordan Rodgers thinks the Vols are ready.
Tennessee football is doing everything they can to keep up with Florida and Georgia in the SEC East. In recent years, it has been Georgia leading the division with Florida right behind them. Tennessee has been trying to keep up with them in recent years but hasn’t beaten either team since 2016.
Tennessee hired Jeremy Pruitt to help bring the Vols back to the level of Georgia and Florida, but that hasn’t been the smoothest transition either. Tennessee fans are hoping that the Vols can close in on those two programs and again compete for the SEC East sooner rather than later.
Former Vanderbilt quarterback and current SEC Network analyst Jordan Rodgers believes that the Vols’ time to return to prominence in the SEC East is now. Rodgers joined WJOX out of Birmingham to discuss Pruitt’s Vols and the SEC East.
"“I think this is the year where they (Tennessee) are right there with Georgia and Florida,” Rodgers said. “They are going to have an opportunity to — call it an upset if you want — win over Florida and Georgia. They are gonna be in those football games.“If Guarantano does kind of play within that blueprint, the talent that Pruitt has added to this roster, and the experience they have, they’re gonna be there. So they could be a team that could get Georgia to slip up, get Florida to slip up.”"
If Tennessee is able to start the season like they finished last season, then Tennessee could very easily compete with both teams and possibly beat them.
Tennessee was the hottest team in college football at the end of last season. I can only imagine what kind of damage Tennessee can do if they’re that hot to start the season.
There are still a lot of questions surrounding Tennessee’s offense and the team as a whole, but it has been a successful offseason for the Vols so far. Hopefully, Pruitt and the Vols can keep that up going into the season, and the Vols can once again seriously compete with Georgia and Florida.
