Tennessee Football cracks top-15 in new Top 25 rankings
With the Big Ten and PAC-12 not playing this fall, Tennessee Football has moved up to No. 15 in 247Sports’ Top 25 rankings.
Tennessee Football didn’t make the initial top-25 rankings, but 247Sports has updated their top-25 rankings with the Big Ten and PAC-12 out of the picture, and the Vols not only made the top-25 but they cracked the top-15.
The SEC will soon be releasing the full schedule for all of its teams, and it seems like the SEC, ACC, and Big 12 have all intentions of playing a full 2020 regular season. With the Big Ten and the PAC-12 out, the Vols have a unique opportunity to be a top-ten team in the country this year.
247Sports’ new rankings feature the Vols at No. 15. The Vols were not in the initial rankings that included the Big Ten and PAC-12. 247Sports writer, Chris Hummer, put the new rankings together.
"“Returning Production: 50th“There’s a decent chance Tennessee is the team we overhype greatly thanks to a late-season push,” Hummer said. “Still, it’s hard to ignore a six-game win streak to end the season and the team’s rising talent (and competency) level. The Vols bring back 17 starters, including the core of a young defense that allowed just 15.5 points per game during their season-ending win streak. Quarterback is a bit of a question for Tennessee, though Jarrett Guarantano played well over the team’s final six games. Finding replacements for Marquez Callaway and Jauan Jennings at receiver will be critical.”"
Tennessee finished the 2019 season with a bowl win and did so as one of the hottest teams in the country. If Jeremy Pruitt can emulate what the Vols did right in the second half of the 2019 season and do that for the entire 2020 season, then the Vols will be alright.
Tennessee has a unique opportunity to finish the 2020 season as a top-ten team, although it will be with a small asterisk since two of the five Power 5 conferences won’t be in the rankings. Top-ten is top-ten nonetheless, and it could give the Vols a boost in recruiting, too.
