Tennessee Football’s offensive line depth might be a little bit slimmer than anticipated with an offensive lineman entering the transfer portal.

Tennessee football redshirt sophomore Jarious Abercrombie could be looking to move on from Rocky Top as he’s reportedly entered the transfer portal.

Abercrombie walked-on to Tennessee’s football team and earned a scholarship ahead of the 2019 football season. He could try to turn his earned scholarship into a starting role somewhere else.

Yahoo Sports reporter Pete Thamel has reported that the redshirt sophomore from Birmingham, Alabama, Abercrombie, has entered the transfer portal.

The Vols’ offensive line depth could be the reason Abercrombie is looking to leave, especially if he doesn’t see himself earning a starting spot in the next couple of seasons at Tennessee.

When Abercrombie came to Tennessee, the offensive line depth was an issue, so there was a better chance of him earning playing time due to there not being very many offensive linemen on the team. Now, the Vols aren’t hurting for players on the offensive line and seem to be pretty comfortable with who they will be playing this fall.

The most recent big-name player to enter the transfer portal for Tennessee is punter Joe Doyle, and he’s back with the Vols for the 2020 season, so Abercrombie isn’t guaranteed to leave.

If he does plan on leaving, this could be the best season to do it as the NCAA will likely grant him immediate eligibility due to COVID-19.

We’ll just have to wait and see what the outcome for Abercrombie will be. Maybe he wants to be closer to home, while earning a starting spot at a smaller school, like UAB. He has the talent to be a solid starter, but it seems like there might be too many guys ahead of him already at Tennessee.
