More hype is coming for Tennessee Football as the Vols will start the season ranked No. 25 in the AP Top-25 preseason poll.

Tennessee football made its return to the Associated Press Top-25 preseason poll this week as the Vols were ranked No. 25 in the country.

If you’ve been a fan of the Volunteers football team for more than two years, then you’re probably aware of the preseason hype that Tennessee fans subject them to. Depending on the year, the hype could come from the fanbase or national organizations.

This is the third time that Tennessee has been ranked No. 25 in the rankings. The other two times the Vols were ranked No. 25 was in 2015 and 2017.

This will be the first time; however, a Jeremy Pruitt-led football team has been ranked in the top-25. If I had to guess, Pruitt’s teams will fare a bit better than the previous administration’s, especially from the 2017 team.

Pruitt is leading one of the hottest teams in college football. The Vols went on an unprecedented run at the end of the 2019 season to finish 7-5 after starting the season 1-4. Tennessee topped off the season with a bowl win against Indiana.

The Vols did lose some of their top players to the NFL draft, so this will be Pruitt’s opportunity to prove that he can rebuild and replace without having a bad season or two.

Without overhyping the season, I think that the Vols have a chance to finish with another seven-win season. That should be the realistic goal for this football team. If they’re able to exceed those expectations and win more than seven games, then that’s great, but there’s no reason why the Vols shouldn’t win at least seven games if they’re as good as they seem to be.
