The Tennessee Titans have signed veteran kicker Stephen Gostkowski to add to their position battle, which could heat things up.

People have been talking in recent days about the Tennessee Titans battle for the starting kicker job. Before Thursday, the Titans were deciding between rookie Tucker McCann and veteran Greg Joseph.

Joseph was kicking with a chip on his shoulder as he saw himself as his only competition. Well, that is going to quickly change for Joseph as the Titans have added another veteran kicker into the mix.

Former Patriots kicker, Stephen Gostkowski, has now been added into the group of kickers who will battle for the starting job. This also comes after Special Teams Coordinator Greg Aukerman said that the battle is neck and neck between Joseph and McCann.

Gostkowski joining the group will add some extra competition for the confident Joseph, but it’s something that McCann probably didn’t want to see. As a rookie, he hasn’t had the opportunity to prove himself in a game in the NFL yet, so adding another solid veteran like Gostkowski is going to hurt his chances of earning the starting job.

For Titans fans, this is a big win as the Titans have a legitimate, proven kicker on the roster after not having one for virtually all of last season.

Gostkowski is assumed to be the favorite to now win the starking kicker job, and if he’s able to do that, then the Titans will be sitting pretty when Week 1 rolls around.

This could be the stability in the kicking game that the Titans need to go from good to great. Special teams is extremely important to having a successful football team, and with the Titans offering a kicker that can consistently perform throughout the entire season could be a game-changer.
