Jeremy Pruitt and Tennessee Football have been working hard on the recruiting trail, but it looks like a four-star freshman might not play in 2020.

Tennessee football could be without another running back on the depth chart this season with Tim Jordan being dismissed and now four-star true freshman Len’Neth Whitehead likely going to be able to play for most of the 2020 season.

Whitehead suffered an injury from high school that hasn’t allowed him to practice at full speed during fall camp, according to Jeremy Pruitt.

Pruitt mentioned on Saturday that he hopes that Whitehead can play at some point in 2020, but he doesn’t know when his debut could take place.

The Vols are sitting pretty good when it comes to their top two running backs, but other than that, there’s not much for Tennessee to lean on. Ty Chandler and Eric Gray will be competing for the most snaps and will be a solid duo in the backfield for the Vols.

The loss of not having four-star talent on the field due to injury behind either Chandler or Gray could hurt the Vols once they get later into the season. If Whitehead is still unable to play by then, we could see the Vols looking for new ways to move the ball down the field or possibly be introduced to a new running back.

Hopefully, the offense won’t need to look for production in the backfield outside of Chandler and Gray, and we won’t have to worry about being in that situation. Regardless, losing four-star talent to injury is always going to hurt in some way.

Next. Tennessee Titans should sign free agent dawg at wide receiver. dark

Whitehead would likely be the Vols’ short-yardage running back with Gray and Chandler taking care of the rest. With Jordan no longer apart of the program, the short-yardage back position is open it’s just a matter of when will Whitehead be ready to take that spot.
