Tennessee Football: Darel Middleton will return next year
With college football players not losing a year of eligibility this season, Tennessee Football linebacker Darel Middleton announced he’s returning in 2021.
The 2020 football season is going to be an interesting season for all of college football. The NCAA has decided not to use a year of any athlete’s eligibility this season, so Tennessee football seniors that want to return for the 2021 season they’ll have the opportunity to do so.
One Tennessee defensive lineman will be taking advantage of this opportunity. Darel Middleton has announced on Twitter that he will not be opting out of the 2020 season. He also said that he will be returning for the 2021 football season.
Last season, Middleton finished the year with 28 tackles, two tackles for a loss, one sack, a forced fumble, and a blocked kick. If Middleton leaps forward, he’s expected to this season; I can’t wait to see what he can do on the football field.
I might be overhyping it, but a third season at Tennessee for Middleton could propel him to the elite level of player that he wants to be when he eventually enters the NFL Draft.
Middleton returning is good news for Tennessee fans as the Vols will have one less senior that they’re going to have to replace after the 2020 season.
For 2020, the Vols’ front seven will consist of players with experience, including seniors Aubrey Solomon, Middleton, Matthew Butler, and LaTrell Bumphus.
Head coach Jeremy Pruitt has been critical of the defense during fall camp, which raises the question, are these guys really as bad as Pruitt is saying, or is he looking for a way to motivate his seniors on defense.
