Tennessee Football received good news on Thursday as Cade Mays was officially approved to play this fall, and the Trey Smith-Mays duo could be lethal.

The biggest news coming out of this week for Tennessee football comes in the way of the NCAA approving Cade Mays and Tennessee’s appeal to their initial denial of immediate eligibility for Mays.

The news came back from the NCAA on Thursday that Mays will be given immediate eligibility for the 2020 season, and now Jeremy Pruitt and the Vols will have to go to the SEC for the final stamp of approval.

"“Today we heard back from the NCAA. They approved Cade’s appeal,” Pruitt told reporters today. “This has always been a two-step process. The next thing is the SEC, so it’s good that our governing body decided to allow him to play. Now, we go to the SEC, and I’ve not really had a chance to talk to Greg much about it.”"

If the SEC approves, then we will officially see Trey Smith and Mays line up next to each other in the trenches.

That’s an exciting thing to think about with both linemen getting some first-round pick projections. We all know what both linemen are capable of on the football field, and Trey Smith has even been named to the First Team Preseason All-SEC. Mays didn’t make the list, but that could be because his appeal hadn’t been approved when this list was made.

I was initially wrong about Jadeveon Clowney. dark. Next

Even though the two linemen might not line up directly next to each other, they could combine for a lethal duo on each side of the line. If Pruitt has plans to line them up next to each other with one at tackle and the other at guard, then that duo will be amplified.
