Tennessee Football takes an embarrassing loss on its home turf to Kentucky for the first time since 1984, and it could be a turning point for the Vols.

One thing I didn’t expect when I woke up this morning was for Tennessee football to be dominated by Kentucky in Neyland Stadium. Tennessee lost to Kentucky at home for the first time since 1984, and after a tough loss to Georgia last week, Tennessee loses in embarrassing fashion thanks to the offense.

Jeremy Pruitt went with Jarrett Guarantano as the Vols’ starting quarterback, and after a fumble and two pick-sixes, Pruitt finally pulled Guarantano. For one drive.

JT Shrout came into the game following the second pick-six, and right after I told my roommate that Harrison Bailey and Brian Maurer were both better quarterbacks, Shrout threw his first interception of the season.

Naturally, Guarantano was put back into the game until there were about 10 minutes left in the game when Pruitt put Bailey into the game to make his Tennessee debut. After driving down into the red zone, the Vols turned the ball over on downs after not scoring on fourth and goal.

The defense had a pretty good game. Looking at the score alone, it doesn’t look like that, but if you take away Kentucky’s two pick-sixes and a field goal scored off Shrout’s interception, then Tennessee only trails 17-7 in the fourth quarter.

The Vols defense held Kentucky under 300 total yards and only 107 passing yards for Kentucky. In fact, both teams were pretty even offensively. Both defenses came to play, and the offenses did not.

On the bright side, it looks like Tennessee might have its new starting quarterback in Harrison Bailey. On the not-so-bright side, if Bailey is the starting quarterback, he gets to face Alabama next week.
