Where do the Tennessee Titans stand after Week 8?
The Tennessee Titans looked to be the dominant team in the AFC South a few weeks ago, but now they have some competition after two straight losses.
The Tennessee Titans were undoubtedly the favorite to win the AFC South a few weeks ago, but now the Titans have lost two straight games, and the Indianapolis Colts have thrown their name into the hat.
Both the Colts and the Titans sit at 5-2 after Week 8, and after watching the Titans’ last two games and the Colts’ last two games, Tennessee fans can’t feel as comfortable as they were a few weeks ago.
The Colts are coming off two impressive wins, including a win over the Bengals, who the Titans lost to on Sunday and a 20-point win on Sunday against the Lions. The Titans’ last two performances are the opposite of the Colts and could make the first of two matchups a very interesting one in two weeks.
The Titans’ offense has bailed out the defense’s poor performances by scoring more than 30 points in all but one of the Titans’ wins. In the last two games, the Titans saw its first two losses and could not hit the 30-point mark, which would’ve won at least one of those two games.
If the defense continues to fall apart, especially third-down defense, then it’s only going to get harder for the offense to bail them out. The schedule isn’t going to get any easier for the Titans, either with the Bears, Colts, and Ravens up next.
For the Titans’ next game, they’re currently favorites according to ESPN’s Football Power Index. The FPI has given the Titans a 62% chance to beat the Bears next Sunday.
With the Titans being tied for first still, they’re in a good spot to win the division, but Mike Vrabel and the Titans are going to have to figure out the issues on defense quick if they want to remain at the top of the division.
