Tennessee Titans: Rodger Saffold earns Pro Football Focus honors
Tennessee Titans offensive lineman Rodger Saffold earns Pro Football Focus’ Offensive Player of the Week honors after his Week 8 performance.
The Tennessee Titans were unable to pick up the win against the Cincinnati Bengals on Sunday, but offensive lineman Rodger Saffold received the highest grade from Pro Football Focus of any player from Week 8. PFF followed up by naming Saffold the Offensive Player of the Week.
Saffold had a great performance on Sunday had finished with a grade of 95.2. PFF’s Anthony Treash said that is the highest single-game grade from any left guard in the NFL this season and one of the five-best single-game grades from a left guard in the last decade.
"After being one of the models of consistency and posting top-15 PFF grades in each of the last three years, Saffold had gotten off to a rough start in 2020. Through the first seven weeks, Saffold had just a 62.4 PFF grade that ranked 37th among 76 qualifying guards. Granted, that’s still good, but that was not up to Saffold’s standards. But against the Cincinnati Bengals on Sunday, Saffold showed there is no reason to be worried about a decline. He had a career day, posting a 95.2 PFF grade for the game. Not only was that the best by a left guard so far this season, but it was one of the five best we have recorded by a left guard in a single game in the last decade. Saffold didn’t lose any of his 34 pass-blocking snaps and tied for the highest positively graded run-block rate of the week among all offensive linemen."
Looking at that alone, it’s safe to say that Saffold was dominant on Sunday. He had a near-perfect game, and hopefully, we will see more of this throughout the second half of the regular season.
Saffold was joined by wide receiver Corey Davis, center Ben Jones and cornerback Malcolm Butler on PFF’s Team of the Week after receiving high grades in Week 8.
The Titans are looking to get back on the right track with the Chicago Bears coming to town. Both teams are coming off back-to-back losses, so both teams will be hungry for a much-needed win before going into divisional matchups next week.
