The Tennessee Titans might be looking to bench Stephen Gostkowski after continuing to be inconsistent, so who should the Titans replace him with?

At the beginning of the season, I offered that the Tennessee Titans should sign a new kicker and cut Stephen Gostkowski. I was proved wrong as Gostkowski figured things out and got back to the kicker we knew from his days in New England. It doesn’t seem that his performance so far is enough to keep his job, though.

The Titans will have a tryout for five players, and two of those players were kickers. Sam Sloman and Giorgio Tavecchio are the two kickers that will be attending the tryouts with the Titans. The three other players are nose tackle Miles Brown, defensive tackle P.J. Johnson, and punter Austin Rehkow.

Gostkowski hasn’t been the most consistent this year, but he has won me over after being very anti-Gostkowski at the beginning of the season. If the Titans are going to replace Gostkowski, I would rather the Titans go with rookie Tucker McCann who is currently on the practice squad.

McCann put up a great fight to earn the starting kicker spot before the Titans decided to go with Gostkowski. I know he doesn’t have any NFL experience, but I’d rather go with a young guy who has a lot of potential and a lot of years left than Sloman and Tavecchio, which I would bet at least half of the people reading this haven’t heard of either kicker.

Slowman has played in only seven games during his career, and all of those came during his time in Los Angeles with the Rams. He was waived ahead of Week 8 and was 8-for-11 on field goals and 18-for-21 on PATs this season.

Tavecchio has played a grand total of 19 games in his career but hasn’t played since 2018. In his career, he’s 21-for-26 on field goals and 41-for-42 on PATs.

With two kickers that are fairly inexperienced and Tavecchio not playing since 2018, if the Titans are going to put a new kicker on the field, they should put McCann out there since they liked him enough to keep him on the practice squad after not giving him the starting job.

We will have to wait and see if the Titans decide to make the move to bench or cut Gostkowski for a less-experienced kicker. If they do, I hope they stick with the other kicker on the team.
