Tennessee Basketball is on the outside looking in the top-ten in the first AP Poll of the 2020-21 season, but that might not be the case for too long.

Tennessee basketball is expected to bounce back and have a bit better season than they did last year. With that expectation, the Vols rank in the top-15 to start the season and sit just outside the top-ten at No. 12.

Gonzaga stands at the top of college basketball as of right now as in the AP’s first poll of the 2020-21 season; the Bulldogs hold the top spot with Baylor right behind them.

Most of Tennessee’s schedule still remains unclear due to COVID-19, but we do know how the Vols will start the season.

The Vols are two spots behind Kentucky (No. 10) and rank as the SEC’s second-best team. That can give some Tennessee basketball fans high hopes for the 2020 season. The Vols are expected to return to the success they had two years ago when Grant Williams and Admiral Schofield were leading the Vols.

Rick Barnes is being paid big money, so this will be his opportunity to prove that he’s worth the money that he’s being paid. If he can get the Vols back into the SEC Tournament Championship game and at least the Sweet 16, then he will help some ease some fans that might be worried he’s overpaid.

If he can win the SEC Championship and get the Vols past the Sweet 16 and into the Elite 8 or even the Final Four, then Vol fans might be ready to throw a little more money at Barnes.

Tennessee basketball fans are ready for a championship and it seems like the best time to win one. Barnes is recruiting elite players on the recruiting trail and seems to be building a solid program, so over the next few years, the Vols’ expectations are going to continue to rise.
