Tennessee Basketball is expected to have a big bounce-back season this year, and the media has picked the Vols to win the SEC Championship.

The hype is continuing to build surrounding Rick Barnes and his Tennessee basketball program as we get closer to the start of the college basketball season. Barnes’ Vols are expected to have a much better season this year after being inconsistent on offense last year.

The biggest eyesore for the Vols last year was three-point shooting. The Vols would throw up three-point shots no matter if they had been making them or not.

Well, it might be getting better for the Vols, or at least there will be expectations to improve, as the media’s preseason poll has picked Tennessee to win the SEC Championship. The Kentucky Wildcats came in at No. 2 in the SEC, and the LSU Tigers ranked No. 3.

The Vols also had two players named to preseason All-SEC teams. John Fulkerson and Yves Pons were both named preseason All-SEC players, which shouldn’t be surprising to any Tennessee basketball fan.

Pons is returning as the defending Defensive Player of the Year in the SEC, so the expectations will be high surrounding his performance alone, as well as the Vols as a whole.

The Vols will start the season by taking part in the Volunteer Classic in Knoxville and will face Charlotte in its season-opener with a matchup with VCU following that game.

The Associated Press has ranked the Vols right outside the top ten at No. 12 in its preseason poll, so the Vols could be looking to sneak into the top ten if they can have some dominant performances to start the season.

Next. The Tennessee Titans could be in big trouble. dark

After a disappointing football season so far, Tennessee fans might start turning to basketball when the Vols tip-off later this month after Thanksgiving.
