The Tennessee Titans could be looking to change kickers after Stephen Gostkowski’s recent struggles, but I think it’s too late for a change.

At the beginning of the season, I was pushing for the Tennessee Titans to make a change with their kicker. Stephen Gostkowski wasn’t getting it done, and after last season, the Titans needed to make sure its special teams were fixed before getting into the meat of the season.

Gostkowski ended up recovering from his rough start, and it seemed like everything was going to be fine for the Titans kicker. Unfortunately, he’s hit a midseason rough patch, and now the Titans could be looking to move on from Gostkowski and give a new kicker an opportunity to take over the kicking duties full-time.

Mike Vrabel addressed this situation on Monday and told the media that as of right now, Gostkowski is the Titans’ kicker.

"“As of today, right now, we have one (kicker) on the practice squad, Tavecchio, who is kicking,” Vrabel said. “But as of Monday, at 10:36, Stephen would be our kicker as of right now.”"

After Vrabel and the Titans stuck by Gostkowski during his tough start, it’s a bit too late to make a midseason change at kicker. There’s no guarantee that the kicker you sign that will likely have much less experience will perform any better than Gostkowski.

Yeah, Gostkowski is going through a bit of a rough patch, but he’s known for coming through when he’s needed in key moments in a season, and I don’t think he’s lost that.

On the other hand, if the Titans do promote Giorgio Tavecchio from the practice squad to replace Gostkowski, and Tavecchio dominated, then I’ll gladly eat my words.
