The Tennessee Titans have announced that they’ve cut punter Ryan Allen, which doesn’t make too much sense but is on par with recent decisions.

The Tennessee Titans started off the season as hot as they’ve ever been, but they’ve started slowly collapsing over the past few weeks. They’ve made some questionable decisions, which have led to questionable play on the field. One of those decisions was with Ryan Allen and the punter position.

Allen filled in for injured punter Brett Kern in Week 9 when the Titans beat the Chicago Bears. He punted eight times for an average of 50.5 yards per punt. His longest punt of the day was 65 yards. Not too shabby of a day. Defintitely worth another shot the following week.

He didn’t get a shot in Week 10, though. The Titans opted to go with former Tennessee Vols punter Trevor Daniel, and that turned out to be a terrible decision. Allen was fine as the punter and seemingly had no issues, yet the Titans opted to go with Daniel anyways.

Daniel’s performance was abysmal and it was clear that the Titans should’ve stuck with Allen. But Daniel was better in practice, so the Titans coaches favored him over Allen.

It looks like Daniel will be rewarded for the worst game I’ve ever seen from a punter with another shot at it this Sunday against the Ravens because the Titans have released Allen. I don’t know why the Titans would move to release the one punter on their roster that isn’t hurt that has been good, but I can’t say I’m surprised.

This move is on par with recent decisions the coaching staff has made and it is now starting to worry me that the coaching staff and front office could blow this season. The Titans looked like real AFC contenders in the first half of the season, but the second half of the season could turn out the be the complete opposite.
