Tennessee Football: Opening line vs Florida doesn’t look promising
We’re now less than a week away before Tennessee Football faces Florida in its annual matchup, and the Gators are listed as big favorites.
It’s been a long time since Tennessee football and Florida played a game in December 2001, to be exact, and in that game, the Vols were able to pull off some magic. Although it’s possible that could happen this year, it’s unlikely.
Tennessee had another BYE week this past week after the SEC moved its game against Vanderbilt to the week after Florida on Dec. 12 and moved the Texas A&M game to the final week of the season on Dec. 19.
Florida week is a week that many fans usually look forward to at the beginning of the season, but this year, it’s coming as one of the last games of the year. I’m sure Florida week will keep VolNation talking throughout the week no matter how bad the Vols have been since their two wins in the first two weeks of the season.
The Vols have opened as 17.5-point underdogs against Florida, which isn’t too surprising after seeing the Tennessee offense unable to put points on the board. If you’re a superstitious fan, this is the same line for the 2001 December game between the Vols and Gators.
If the Vols plan to beat the Gators on Saturday, then Jeremy Pruitt is going to have to put together the best defensive gameplan he’s ever made. Kyle Trask is one of the hottest quarterbacks in the country and is no-doubt a Heisman contender.
Tennessee’s season has been one of the worst ones in program history. Although it has been a shortened season with only ten games and all of them being against SEC opponents, we’ve never seen a team have only ten wins at the end of November.
In Pruitt’s third season, it already seems like he’s on borrowed time, but a win against Florida could change some fans’ opinions on him and could buy him some much-needed time.
