Tennessee Vols: Here’s Exactly What The QB Depth Chart Will Say On September 4
By Zach Ragan
The Tennessee Vols will have a new starting quarterback in 2017, but who will it be?
Before we go too far, this isn’t some sort of inside information about who will win the Tennessee Vols‘ starting quarterback battle.
Butch Jones is keeping that information in a locked box somewhere and he’s not sharing that information with folks that will leak it to the media.
With that said, it’s really not that difficult to figure out how the Vols’ depth chart will read when Tennessee opens the season against Georgia Tech on September 4.
When the depth chart is released for the game against the Yellow Jackets, it will almost certainly list Quinten Dormady and Jarrett Guarantano as co-starters.
I’m sure that won’t make Vol fans very happy, but that’s what it’s going to be, folks.

I don’t think that means the Volunteers plan to run a two quarterback system in 2017, but I do think Jones is going to let the battle play out in the regular season a bit.
Which isn’t a bad move.
Guarantano has never played in a college game, and Dormady has only played in garbage time. You can only glean so much from practice reps.
The only way to know which player is best suited to lead the Vols’ offensive attack is to watch both of these players in actual game situations.
It’s just too bad Tennessee doesn’t start against Indiana State.
The game against Georgia Tech is an important game for the Vols to win. So hopefully playing two quarterbacks in that game won’t hinder Tennessee’s ability to leave Atlanta with the victory.
