Lane Kiffin and Jonathan Crompton have been garnering headlines lately in regards to their time with the Tennessee Vols.

Former Tennessee Vols quarterback Jonathan Crompton recently spoke to the Times Free Press and discussed his time in Knoxville.

Crompton revealed that some fans were quite hostile toward him and his family when he was at Tennessee.

"“‘Animosity’ is probably the best word for how I felt for a long time. I know it wasn’t the majority of the fans, but there were enough examples that it really left a bad taste in my mouth. And I don’t want to have that bad taste toward my alma mater anymore. I really don’t.”"

On Monday, Lane Kiffin (Crompton’s coach in 2009 at Tennessee) tweeted that it’s time for Crompton to “let it go”.

It’s kind of odd to see that tweet from Kiffin, because he was very complimentary of Crompton just last week.

Saturday Down South asked Kiffin about Crompton and here’s what the former Vols coach had to say:

"He took a lot of heat and that wasn’t easy there because of people not feeling he played well enough prior to that year. He really did a great job that year, he won some big games and is a great kid and from a great family."

What Crompton dealt with from fans was unacceptable. Fans should be better, but he might be wise to heed Kiffin’s advice.

If anyone knows about dealing with hostile Tennessee fans, it’s Lane Kiffin.

Hopefully Crompton can be welcomed back to Rocky Top by fans. He certainly gave his all for Tennessee during his time there.
