Former Vols QB Tyler Bray Makes Impressive Touchdown Throw In Chiefs’ Win
By Zach Ragan
Former Tennessee Vols quarterback Tyler Bray made an impressive touchdown throw on Saturday against the Cincinnati Bengals.
Former Tennessee Vols quarterback Tyler Bray might be the Kansas City Chiefs’ third quarterback, but he still has the impressive arm that earned him a contract extension as a backup.
Check out this bullet of a touchdown throw from Bray to Seantavius Jones.
Bray, who slid down the Chiefs’ depth chart last week, finished Saturday’s game against the Bengals with 23 passing yards and one touchdown. He completed two-of-five passes. Bray was also sacked twice.
It’s painfully obvious that Bray is now firmly behind rookie Patrick Mahomes.
The rookie quarterback played behind starter Alex Smith. Mahomes did, however, see some time with the first team offense, after Smith left the game.
Kansas City’s relationship with Bray has been downright odd. Not many teams extend a third-string quarterback — especially after suffering a torn ACL. But that’s what the Chiefs elected to do in 2015.
Bray is a free agent after the 2017 season and I think at this point it’s safe to say that he won’t be playing in Kansas City in 2018. The Chiefs believe they’ve found the heir to Alex Smith and it’s not Tyler Bray.
But as Bray demonstrated in the Chiefs’ win against the Bengals, he still has the arm talent to play in the NFL. I doubt he’s ever going to be a starter, but with the lack of quality quarterbacks in the league, he definitely has a place as a number two quarterback on a team somewhere.

Bray should see plenty of playing time in the final two pre-season games of the year. He’ll need to show up big in those games because it will likely be his last chance to audition for teams ahead of the 2018 free agency period.
