Former Georgia Bulldogs offensive lineman Matt Stinchcomb is clearly not a fan of the Tennessee Vols.

Maybe it’s because he never played on a team that beat Tennessee, or maybe he still hasn’t got over the Jauan Jennings/Josh Dobbs hail mary from last year. Whatever the reason, it’s clear that former Georgia Bulldogs offensive lineman Matt Stinchcomb has a bias against the Vols.

The SEC Network ran their preview show for the Vols on Tuesday night, and Stinchcomb laughably predicted that Tennessee will finish 6-6 in 2017. He thinks the Vols lose to Florida, Georgia, Alabama, Kentucky, LSU and Missouri.

Seriously?

I know some folks are down on the Vols this year, after their underachieving 2016 season, but I’m not sure anyone is silly enough to think they win only six games in 2017.

And the losses don’t even make sense. Beat Georgia Tech but lose to Mizzou and Kentucky?

Pretty much everyone agrees that 7-5 is the floor for Tennessee in 2017. The ceiling is probably 10-2. Most folks are predicting either 8 or 9 wins for the Volunteers this season.

I can’t even think of a rational reason for Stinchcomb to predict only 6 wins for the Vols this season.

Sure, the Vols will have a new starting quarterback to break in this year. And they have to replace talented players like Derek Barnett and Josh Malone.

But this is a talented team!!! And it’s not like me, or anyone else, is predicting Tennessee to win the SEC East like we were last season. Most folks, myself included, are looking for a slight drop off in 2017, due to the loss of experienced talent.

However, I think most analysts would agree that Tennessee is a team that if everything goes right, and they stay healthy, could win 10 games in 2017.

It’s just too bad that Matt Stinchcomb can’t get over two straight losses to Tennessee and see that for himself.
