Will the Tennessee Vols land Jon Gruden as their next head coach?

Just when the Grumors were starting to slow down on Friday, legendary former Tennessee Vols head coach Johnny Majors decided to chime in and get the rumor mill churning again.

Majors said in a radio interview that he “wouldn’t be shocked” if Gruden ended up getting the Tennessee job.

Majors also alluded to a “feeling” he has.

It’s hard to imagine Majors, who is Tennessee royalty, being completely out of the loop in this coaching search.

And it’s even harder to imagine that he doesn’t know what’s going on with Gruden.

Remember, Gruden was a graduate assistant under Majors at Tennessee. He loves him some Johnny Majors. Do you really think Gruden would consider the UT job and not reach out to Majors for advice?

Surely the two have talked. Who knows how much Majors knows, but I’m guessing he knows a bit more than he’s letting on.

And by the way, Gruden casually dropped a Majors reference during his infamous radio interview in Seattle on Thursday, saying “they remember what you do in November”.

I have no idea what’s going to unfold with the Gruden saga, but I have a feeling this isn’t over yet.

No one will fault Gruden if he ultimately decides to decline the job. But the fact that he’s teases Vol fans with UT references, and reached out to numerous for Vols/Vol coaches, won’t sit well with Tennessee fans if he hasn’t been taking this serious the whole time.
